sorry @rogerchristie but again, fuck that. i get so embarrassed when someone sends me a “thanks for following” reply or dm. i wonder what “how to master twitter” post did you read that from, kawasaki, brogan, or rowse? i am fully aware i followed you, cos i followed you. i don’t need some kind of grovelling thanks “and welcome to my wacky world, strap yourself in” message. sorry to be so abrasive, but after two years on twitter, i’m sick to fuck of seeing a post by an “expert” come out, and the next month watching every new person conform to said post. it drives me mental.

Maybe you should have reread that post before making such an ass out of yourself.
@rogerchristie said “If you follow someone, introduce yourself” — not to say “thanks for following” when someone follows you! There’s a big difference. Personally, I like to know how my followers found me and why they’re following me. It makes it much more likely that I’ll follow them back.

Each to their own – some people like to know where their followers have come from and others aren’t interested. In terms of the ‘how to master twitter’ post, hadn’t actually read one but interesting to see they’re saying the same thing… By no means am I an expert! Just my own opinion.
Also, I think there’s a massive difference between the generic “thanks for following” note and actually finding out where you’ve come from. I can’t stand the generic ones myself, much like the “Welcome new followers…” tweet like your previous tip.

Yeah, sorry Roger, i wasn’t attacking you, i was attacking the idea. I just get so many of those generic welcomes lately…
I’ll write a proper blog post addressing the “experts” later today. I’m just becoming the grumpy old man of twitter.
Get off my lawn kids.

But it’s also nice to get a personal note, not bot or generic welcome.
